Hazards Brought by Boiler Scale

There are numerous factors affecting boiler operation, but substances like scale may seem inconspicuous and easily overlooked. However, the impact of scale in the boiler usage process is significant. Scale is inevitable in boiler operation, potentially due to prolonged boiler runtime or improper operation by boiler management personnel. If scale forms on the heat transfer surface of a boiler, it directly results in decreased heat transfer performance and can cause uncertain effects, either major or minor, on the boiler’s lifespan and safety.

1. After scale formation in a boiler, due to the decreased heat transfer efficiency, achieving the rated steam output or rated heat output of the Zhengguo boiler will inevitably require more fuel consumption. As the scale thickness gradually increases and fuel consumption is limited by the fixed furnace volume and grate area, the boiler output decreases, leading to significantly reduced thermal efficiency.

2. The boiler’s safety performance significantly decreases. Scale has poor heat transfer properties, causing localized overheating of the boiler’s metal pipe walls. When the temperature exceeds the allowable temperature for the metal, creep occurs due to overheating, reducing its strength. Under boiler operating pressure, the metal may bulge, perforate, or rupture, affecting the safe operation of the boiler.

3. Shortened boiler lifespan. Scale on the boiler’s heat transfer surfaces must be thoroughly removed to ensure safe and economical boiler operation. Regardless of whether the removal is done manually, mechanically, or using chemical agents, it will affect the service life of the fuel oil steam boiler.

In summary, to prevent scale formation, operational procedures must be standardized throughout the usage process to avoid damaging the boiler and compromising customer interests.
