Turkmenistan South Yolotan, a vast oil field near the Afghan border, has already started producing natural gas, and Turkmenistan will more than double its exports to China in the next few years. An independent UK auditor estimates that South Yolotan’s gas reserves could be as high as 21.2 trillion cubic meters (750 trillion cubic feet), potentially becoming the world’s second-largest gas reserves after the South Pars field, which is shared by Iran and Qatar.
The Central Asian country will increase its natural gas exports to China to 65 billion cubic meters a year by 2020, from 25 billion cubic meters this year, according to Turkmen energy officials.
